New Moon HYBRID Solar Eclipse – 4.19.23
A very exciting New Moon Solar Eclipse this week – a HYBRID eclipse! Not like a Prius but more like an exciting cosmic event that occurs only a few times in a hundred years. A hybrid eclipse occurs when the first part of the eclipse is annular (a ring of sunlight radiates around the entire outer edge of the moon), then the eclipse is TOTAL (no sunlight can be seen at all) and then the eclipse is annular again before the moon moves on. You will be able to see the entire cosmic spectacle if you live in Western Australia or Indonesia, but whether you can view the eclipse from where you live or not, the effects on all of us will be felt. Eclipses are powerful trigger points for change and shift, in perspective and in experience.
The Sun and the Moon will be at the very last degree of Aries, 29 degrees 50 minutes (just 10 minutes from being in Taurus). The last degree of a sign is super significant, full of the energy of that sign – all that was learned and that is now integrated into our collective, and your personal, energy field.
Aries, ruled by dynamic planet Mars, the first sign of the zodiac, is jam-packed with ENERGY to take action, to move forward, to birth what is new and exciting. Mars is often identified with aggressive, war-like energy but that is mostly due to the male orientation of astrological interpretation. I take a different stance – and that is experiencing ARIES as the dynamic energy that plants activate to push through the soil, to pop buds into leaf, and to birth the NEW out of a sleepy, restful winter. ARIES brings in the NEW with the LOVE of LIFE and the willingness to take a chance to harness the flow of birth energy to bring in what has yet to manifest.
It is easy, and even seductive, to fall into the old paradigm that Mars is aggressive in a destructive way. It takes conscious choice and awareness to see Mars as the very life-force energy that creates what has yet to be created. I challenge myself each and every day to choose a NEW paradigm of love-fueled thought and action and not succumb to the dominant news-feed of fear and reactive response. It’s a challenge worthy of Mars and the only way to change what has been to what is to be!
